The Muslim Society of Guelph is deeply saddened to hear about the devastating news regarding the hate crime attack that led to the death of 4 Muslim family members, and a child with serious injuries in London, Ontario, on Sunday, June 6, 2021.
This attack is a result of the continuing rise of Islamophobia and should be clearly identified as a hate crime on Canadian soil.
أنا لله وأنا إليه لراجعون
Ina lillahi Wa Ina Illahi Rajeoon
Verily we belong to God, and verily to Him do we return
Our hearts are with the families of those whom are directly affected by this, as well Muslim communities across the country whom are outraged by this injustice that has occurred to the innocent lives of our dear brothers and sisters.
We would like to take a moment to give our heartfelt thanks and gratitude for the outpouring of support we have received today. We have heard from our dear friends and complete strangers expressing love and support. We will be holding a vigil and walk on June 10th starting at 7:30pm at 286 Water St. In lieu of candles and flowers, if possible, we request you donate a plant that we can add to a memorial garden we plan to create for the family we have lost and those who have been the victims of islamophobia. Some have asked if they can donate to the MSOG and to this end we have created an Anti-racism Resource Fund to help us with resources and activities to help us combat racism and islamophobia and maintain the memorial garden.
